Message from FMZA VP, Steve DeMoor, 1/29/08

Members and friends,

This past weekend several members of the FMZA invited Dr. Gamble, a large animal veterinarian from LA, down to FL to provide veterinary services to some of our members' livestock.  Dr. Gamble is well respected for his expertise in surgically dehorning cattle.  He provided them a variety of services including surgical dehorning, castration, pregnancy checks, and others.

Everyone who attended was thrilled with the incredible quality of work provided by Dr. Gamble, at a very reasonable cost.  If you've never seen miniature zebu after a surgical dehorning, you would be simply amazed at the difference in appearance.  We all agreed that, after the quick dehorning process, the animals appeared smaller, younger, friendlier, and much classier  in appearance.

The event was a great success for all who participated, and everyone was pleased with the outcome.  The FMZA board would like to extend a great deal of thanks to Dr. Gamble and his wife for traveling here all the way from LA to assist us.  We would also like to say "Thank you, thank you, thank you" to Mr. Rick Bogle who donated his farm and facilities to hold the event.  We certainly could not have done it without him.  Also, thank you to Ann and Larry Harper for organizing and coordinating this tremendously successful event.

The FMZA would like to make this an annual event; to offer affordable, quality veterinary services to our members.  Dr. Gamble has indicated that if our members would like him to return in the future, that he would do so.  Please let our president, Ann Harper, know if you would like to have one or more animals dehorned.  As soon as we have the appropriate number of animals lined up, we'll ask Dr. Gamble if he'll return to assist us again.

We are excited to serve our members in 2008, and hope to continue to expand the resources and activities offered by our organization.  Please do not hesitate to contact any board member at any time if we can be of assistance in any way.  Also, remember to post your cattle for sale on the website.  We want to maintain a current list of available animals to potential buyers, and several members have already indicated that they have sold animals to buyers who found them on this site.

Let's make 2008 a great year for the miniature zebu!!

Hello all,
Just wanted to give everyone an update on what has been going on lately. The board, or I should say Mr. Kehoe, has been very busy organizing our show schedule for 2008. Next year is going to be a great year for Florida Zebu. We will be having some shows at county fairs as well as the big one at State in Tampa. We are going to have a judges clinic for the FFA and 4-H judges as well as anyone else who might wish to learn this and get licensed. The board will meet in a few weeks to discuss the shows further. Anyone wishing to attend is welcome, just let us know you want to. We want our members to be involved in everything we do. And we value your comments and suggestions. I will announce the date, time and place for the board meeting soon.

Thank you,
Ann Harper

Hello all
I want to welcome all of you to our organization. Our first meeting was great as well as our first board meeting. We have lots to discuss and loads of plans for the future. We want to have another membership meeting this summer so the date and place will be discussed at a later time. We encourage all members to sign up your Zebu friends so they can join with us for all the fun we have planned. We will be having our first big show next year at the Florida State Fair in Feb. So everyone get those cattle ready! We are very excited that the AMZA has spoken to the Fair board and gotten permission for us to have a show instead of just an exhibition as most newbies only get to do their first year. We are getting ready to form youth groups, from us and 4 -H and FFA kids, that will halter break and show our calves. If you have a child interested in showing or would like to donate a calf for this project please let me know. Our web site is in the works. Check it out from time to time: www.FMZA.com Please keep in touch and remember to bring in some new members. We are encouraging our members to fill out a membership for anyone you sell a Zebu to, send it in along with a discounted rate of $15 to us, with you as the sponsoring member. Members will get this discount by sending in the membership from the proceeds of the cow they have just sold.  This helps you as a member and the club by having a new member too. If you need membership forms let me know and I can send them to you.
Well, keep up the good work. See everyone soon.

Ann
